Houki-no-kami MASAYOSHI was born in A.D.1733 (18th year of Kyouho) and his real name is Ijichi Uemon, who learned from his father, both Naminohira and Soshu school. He developed his talent and became one of the most famed sword smiths in Edo period. He exclusively had worked for Satsuma-han on after A.D.1784 (The 4th year of Tenmei) and had enjoyed Houji-no-kami title in the first day, twelve month, the first year of Kansei and had changed his smith name from MASAYOSHI, Yoshi for Good to MASAYOSHI, Yoshi for bliss at the same time.
These DAISHO set, KATANA was made when he was 63, and WAKIZASHI in 66 years old respectively with supreme skill and workmanship which had been matured with his peak period. Wide in Mihaba, The blade is wide and point is broad. The shape is stout, magnificently shaped and heavy blades. The Jigane is fine Koitame and Mokume-hada which is thickly covered in minute ji-nie and jigane is delicately beautiful. It is entirely and splendidly active with thick nike lines (chikei). The hamon is nie based covered in deep Nioi-kuchi, Habuchi is streaked with thick Kinsen, Inazuma and frequent Sunagashi. The entire tempering pattern is Notare with Gunome which has close resembles to a work of Shizu. The entire Ji-ha is splendidly and remarkably bright. The workmanship of the tang, he would probably be a left-handed, the file marks is slanting right (katte-agari) and it is his feature that the size of tang is rather neat and smart. The both blades had been sent for a elaborate polish recently and in possible best condition.
