Blade construction (kengyo) : Shinogi-zuruki, High back Iori-mune. There is well-proportioned curve standing firmly with massive hiraniku in Hiraji, heavy on hand. The entire shape is wide and heroically made leading to a middle Kissaki and has dignified bearing. 
Forging pattern (kitae hada) : Kitae hada is conspicuous Mokume hada mixing in with Itame marks. The entire hiraji is moistened by fine, uniform ji-nie (hard metal granules over the surface of the blade) and is beautifully active with chikei (darkish thick nie lines).
Tempering pattern (hamon) : Hamon is fine ko-nie base, shallow wavy, Koshi-ba (gunome midare about 5-sun from base). Deep ko-nie glows in a belt and active with small ASHI feet, UCHINOKE and HOTSURE activity.The interior of entire tempering outline is covered in soft and misty nioi, vividly bright.
Temper of tip (boshi) : Boshi is regularly small circle turns back.
Tang (Nakago) : Nakago is UBU original. Takanoha (V-shape) filemarks. Kurijiri round heel shape. Two Mekugi-ana peg holes.
The signature in Hakiomote is chiselled two large character KANE NORI.
The first smith KANENORI, Nanbokucho - Ouei period (end 14th) is a son of KENETOMO in Naoe-shizu school, a frontier of SAN-AMI lineage (one of seven lineages of Seki, Mino province). KANENORI had played a leader of SAN-AMI lineage in generations, who equally ranks with KANEMOTO and KANESADA as leading sword makers in Seki, Mino province. Existing works of KANENORI with the date of year ranges from Eisho to Tensho(1504-1591). The subject KANENORI had moved to
Kasugayama, Echigo province in Tenbun(1532-1554) to work for a daimyo Uesugi Kenshin. (Wakizashi signed Echigo-koku Kasuga-ju KANENORI Kichiuemon-no-jo Tsukuru).
This katana is near mint-excellent, museum conserved condition and is renowned as one of the best works of KANENORI. Reported in page 117, [Yumei Koto Tainan], Imura Kasho, 1982
