Sugata(configuration) : Hira-zukuri Tanto, Iori-mune. Mihaba is wide and thick in Kasane, almost no curvature long tanto with FUKURA in full. 
Kitae(forging pattern) : Kitae-hada is fine Itame (wooden grain) and flowing masame straight grains mark along back ridge.
Hamon(tempering pattern) : Hamon starts with short Yakidashi then forms wide wavy NOTARE in general, mixing in GUNOME shape. The temper edge is deeply covered in with thick Nie and interior is covered in deep Nioi mist activity. The interior of temper activates with thick ASHI feet. There is some Muneyaki (temper along back ridge).
Boshi (tip): The temper of the tip in front forms large circle then deeply turns back and reversed side shows HAKIKAKE brushing indication then small circle turns back deeply.
Nakago(tang) : Original UBU which holds an original mekugi-ana retaining hole. Shallow Katte-sagari (slight slanging left) file mark. The shape of bottom is Ha-agari Kurijiri round. The signature in Hakiomote starts with the family name YOKOYAMA, title SAKON SHOKAN, clan MINAMOTO then smith name SUKENOBU-saku. The reversed side is chiselled with the place of work Bizen Osafune-ju.
This is the tanto by SUKENOBU, real name Tatsu-uemon in the middle of 19 the c. According to the research materials of Okayama clan - [KIRIMAICHO], in the 10 th year of Bunsei (1827), smith SUKENOBU (Yokoyama Tatsu-uemon) was taken into the service of the Okayama clan with 3 person "FUCHI" salary. He enjoyed family name YOKOYAMA in the 14 th year of Tenpo (1843), then rose to the position of "Dai-Shoya" chief maker in the 2 nd year of Kouka (1845). Passed away in the 24th day, the first month, 4 th year of Ansei (1857). It is understood that he was also a matchlock maker.
