Blade construction: Hira-zukuri Tanto, Iori-mune, Extremely wide in Mihaba and thick in Kasane and slight curve. There are Bo-hi and Soe-hi grooves on both sides and Bo-hi in front is chiselled with a Suken sword. (click HERE for higher resolution image of the entire blade).
Forging(Hada): Kitae-hada is conspicuous Itame-hada, mixing in with the indication of flowing wavy forging mark along temper side.
Temper(Hamon): Hamon is wide and sparkling Nie based, wavy in general and shows box-shape, sharp-head, irregular small zigzag (komidare) which varies in shape. The interior of temper works with thick and darkish Nie-lines so called Kinsen or Inazuma.
Temper of tip(Boshi): Temper of Boshi in front is strong Nie glitter base, irregular and a splitting temper mark so called Tobi-yaki. Ura side is tight Nioi base, Hotsure fray and Niju-ha double temper lines.
Tang(Nakago): Nakago is in original. Two peg holes. O-Sujikai (greatly slanting left) filemarks. The signature in front is Ashu-ju Seishinshi NAGATOSHI-saku.
Smith NAGATOSHI 『寿寿』 with the pseudonym of Seishinshi 『清心子』 - his original name was Kojima Tamekazu 『小島為一』. He was born in Meiji 34 (1901) and learned from his father Kojima Tomoro KUNITOMO 小島友郎『国友』 and the elder brother Kojima Kameta Genbusai SHIGEFUSA 小島亀太『玄武齋重房』. He started sword-making since Showa 8 (1933) and had been contracted to work for the Japanese Army at Osaka arsenal in Showa 16 (1941). He was designated to the Important Cultural Property by the Tokushima Prefecture Government 『徳島県重要無形文化財』 for his contribution of over 40 years' sword-making.
This sword was made when he was 66 years old, and is surprisingly heroic blade that holds an extremely wide (42.7mm on base) and massive volume with thick kasane (8.2mm on base). King-sized sword accompanies with a
