| Blade construction: Hirazukuri, Iori-mune, Mihaba width is wide with puffy
upper fukura in full. Kasane is thick. The entire blade is full of brave
spirits and strengthened. There is a single Bo-hi groove in front and double
parallel Bo-hi grooves (Gomabashi) in reversed side. (click HERE for super sized image
of entire blade) Forging(Hada): Kitae is conspicuous Itame wooden grains marks generally, mixing in with large Mokume burl and streaming Masame hada ware along temper side. There works with whitish UTSURI reflect over the surface. Temper(Hamon): Hamon is Gunome zigzag generally. Swelling indication and Togari-ha partially sharpened up, where temper line activates with Nie and rather deep Nioi mist in the interior where Sunagashi busing mark streams. The entire Hamon gives off typical antiquated atmosphere in manner of traditional technique in 16 th century. Temper of tip(Boshi): Boshi in front is wavy Notare tempered with small circle then deeply turns back along the back ridge.Reversed side is irregularly tempered turning back deeply. Tang(Nakago): UBU, Two peg holes. Slanting left filemarks. Ha-agari round shape bottom heel. The signature on Hakiomote starts with living place three characters that reads Joshu-Ju and smith name MORISHIGE. Sword makers Tokujira school in Joshu province mostly worked for major feudal lords, Takeda, Uesugi and Hojo Daimyos. It is quite rare to come across the works of MORISHIGE. The blade is full of stout and brave impression during Momoyama period, end of Warning States period. Although the length of cutting edge is over 30cm to describe as a Wakizashi, actually this heroically wide blade was designed for the supplement of a long Uchigatana sword. Aikuchi style Kagura (sacred music and dancing performed at shrines) gears koshirae, end of Edo period 19 th century, scabbard carved a Pine tree scene and hilt carved Kagura gear masks with a chisel.
