Blade construction : Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune, Kasane is extremely thick and width on base is very wide, heroically heavy blade leading to a extended middle tip.(click HERE for super size image)
Forging(Hada) : Hada is tight Ko-itame generally mixing in with large Itame and flowing hada appears in the interior of temper.
Temper(Hamon) : Hamon is ko-nie favored wide Gunome. There is gunome-feet working toward the cutting edge. There are some Tobiyaki (temper marks along the shinogi-ridge).
Temper of tip(Boshi) : Boshi is small irregular line/ko-midare, medium circle turns back.
Tang(Nakago) : Nakago is in UBU. one nakago ANA. Takanoha(V-shape) filemarks. Shape of end is Kengyo(V-shape). The signature in hakiomote starts with his living place [Noshu-ju], family name [Kamei] and his name [AKIHIRA-saku] and the reversed side is chiselled with the date of year [Auspicious day, Autumn, the 46 the year of Showa] (A.D.1971).
Kamei Akihira, born in 1927, who learned from Kanenaga. Lives in kamogun, Gifu prefecture. He was awarded two Doryoku prizes and fifteen Nyusen prizes by Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai. He is one of the elders of Modern Japanese Sword Smiths. This is his work when he was 45 years old. The workmanship is heroic and brave in shape, magnificent Katana. It is quite heavy construction. The filemark of nakago is V-shape which is representative in Mino-school and is eleborately made.
