First smith UJIFUSA was born as a third son of Kiyozaemon KANEFUSA. His family name is KOUMURA and given name is KYOSABUROU that had been changed KIYOZAEMON later. His initial smith name was [KANEFUSA}. He served for ODA NOBUNAGA who is the load of KIYOSU castle. He enjoys SAEMON-NO-SHOI title in the 19th day, 4th month, 13th year of Eiroku and changed smith name as [UJIFUSA] in the same day. 3 days later he enjoyed [WAKASANOKAMI] title as well when he was 37th years old. On the 5th year of Tensho, he moved to Azuchi castle in Omi province along with NOBUNAGA. After NOBUNAGA was passing away, he moved back to Gifu serving to ODA NOBUTAKA and again back to Kiyosu Owari in the 12th year of Tensho. He passed away in the 11th day, 5th month 18th year of Tensho, 57 years old. He is buried at Torenji in Osu Monzencho(now moved to Yagoto, Showa-ku, Nagoya). This work was made in 1571 (2nd year of Genki) when he was 38 years old. The whole shape is stout and hamon is large patterned, extravagant gunome of which head is in full and round called [KENBO-MIDARE] mixing in with Togari-ha. It is understood that Katana during Momoyama period became longer that is held by both palms unlike shorter one in the former period. The typical signature on Hakiomote was moved to the center of Nakago because of chiselled away Bo-hi groove and three smaller character of WAKASANOKAMI leading to large signature that read UJIFUSASAKU. Some of his works were dedicated to the Grand shrine of Atsuta. The Katana of first smith UJIFUSA is seldom seen. Among similar works, this blade is a delight and overflowing with an ambitious spirit.
