Sugata(configuration) : Kanmuri otoshi, Iori-mune. No curvature. Kasane is thick and Shinogi-ridge is high. There is fukura in full. (click HERE for higher resolution)
Kitae(forging pattern) : Kitae is combination of itame-hada (wooden grain) and flowing pattern(masame hada), which is covered in Ji-nie.
Hamon(tempering pattern) : Hamon is nie base suguha (straight out line) and combination of hotsure(fray). The interior of temper is filled in deep Nioi and works with Kin-sen(bright nie lines) and Sunagashi(brushing nie lines)
Boshi (tip): Boshi is straight and deeply turn back down connecting to muneyaki(temper in the ridge).
Nakago(tang) : UBU (unaltered) one Mekugi-ana (retaining hole). Osujikai and kesho file marks. There is mass on the ridge and Iriyama heel shape. The signature in hakiomote is located a bit lower, shinogi-side, large seven character that reads Banshu Tegarayama Ujishige and ura is chiselled at the center and upper side, the date of year that means the eight month, bird calendar sign, the first year of Kyowa (A.D. 1801)
The fourth generation of Tegarayama Ujishige in harima province, his real name is Miki Shinbei, a nephew of Tegarayama MASASHIGE, a warrior exclusively worked for Shirakawa-han. A major character of his signature is the last three strokes of the last character [SHIGE], these are three drops unlike the other generations.. The length of cutting edge is seven-sun three bu which is suitable for self-protection purpose, thick and stout configuration. Jigane is conspicuous Itame-hada mixing in with Masame which is covered in ji-nie and hamon is nie-based, bright and vivid suguha of which interior is active with nie activity - Kinsen and Sunagashi. There is a grain opening mark, approximately 83mm above Hamachi in hakiomote, however the entire tanto is massive and heavy in fine condition.
