| Sugata(configuration) : Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune. Shinogi-suji ridge is
highly standing up sharply and kasane is abundant as well. Long blade,
shallow curve leading to a medium size boshi tip. (click HERE for
super sized image) Kitae(forging pattern) : Kitae-hada is itame wooden grain mark mixing in with burl Mokume hada partly. There works with sparkling glitter so called Ji-nie activity throughout Hiraji-surface that generates Chikei scene (frizzy bluish Nie hard metal lines). Hamon(tempering pattern) : Hamon shows Nie-based indication, starts with gentle straight temper so called Yakidashi on base, and then gunome, box-shape and sharpened head (togari), upper the blade, stronger sparkling Nie glitters and deeper the Nioi-mist, where Sunagashi blushing activity works. There are some Muneyaki (temper along the back ridge) marks. Boshi (tip): The temper of the tip in front is straight into medium circle with SHIMA-temper then deeply turn back and the Ura side is also medium circle deeply turn back.. Nakago(tang) : UBU original, Slanted left (o-sujikai) and horizontal Kesho filemarks. The heel is round-shape (Kurijiri) shape heel. The signature in hakiomote located upper on Shinogi-ji that starts with the location [Touto-ju], title [Hitachi-no-kami] and smith name [Fujiwara KANEFUSA], Ura side is chiselled with the date of year, starting lower by one character portion, [Early Spring, in the Eighth year of Anei] (A.D.1779) The frontier Kanefusa during middle of 15 th period had belonged to Zenjo school, prospered as a smith in charge of chief in Seki, Mino province, the third son of second gen. Kanefusa was exclusively worked for feudal lord Imagawa Ujizane who had granted the name of [Uji] to Kanefusa to change his smith name [Ujifusa]. Under the reign of the Tokugawas, Kanefusa/Ujifusa family school flourished not only Mino, Owari but to the other provinces such as Yamato, Settu, Echizen and Bushu. The subject long katana is made by 3rd generation Kanefusa in Bushu province, adding and historical value with the date of year on the back side. The size is longer than standard, which is supposed to an article made to order. Another highlight is a an original-guessed koshirae fitting that consists of black lacquered sheath, hilt : white layskin dark blue lozenge silk cord wrap, Fuchi/kashira : Shakudo ground Sukisage plow, gold/Suaka iroe Peony motif, Menuki : Shakudo ground Peony design, gold plated, Tsuba : yamagane ground, Kiku flowers Usuniku plow.
