Sugata(configuration) : Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune. Wide in Mihaba on base, rich upper Monouchi area leading to the middle tip.(click HERE for super sized image)
Kitae(forging pattern) : Kitae-hada is conspicuous Itame wooden grain marks mixing in with large mokume burl and swirl. The surface covered in thick Nie hard metal granules. The shinogi-ji shows conspicuous flowing hada-ware (Masame) indication.
Hamon(tempering pattern) : Hamon is strong Nie based, Notare wavy mixing in with gunome, clove outline that varies in shape and patterns. The temper gives off bright light that works with Inazuma thunder, kinsen gold lines indication and Sunagashi blushing marks which are vividly active with Nie-activity. Some temper overflows to surface (Yubashiri), that generates vividly active scene of Soshu-den technique.
Boshi (tip): The temper of the tip comes in regular straight indication then small circle deeply turn back.
Nakago(tang) : UBU original V-shape(Iriyama) heel. One peg hole. The signature starts with name of school/place Houjouji and then collaboration signature by SADAKUNI and KUNIMITSU.
The frontier of Houjou-ji school is KUNIMITSU
(Nanbokucho period), Tajima province during 14th century, who belonged to the Three Genius Makers of SADAMUNE's pupils. During Edo period, Houjou-ji family school had come to Edo province and mostly worked for the officials Samurai of the shogunate. This sword is the collaboration work by SADAKUNI (a brother of MASAHIRO) and KUNIMITSU (a pupil of SADAKUNI's brother). This wakizashi unlike any other ordinary works by Houjou-ji makers, has close resembles to the work of frontier KUNIMITSU in Nanbokucho period. One of their masterpieces, reproduction of Sadamune's climax Soshu-den works.
Black lacquered scabbard Wakizashi koshirae consists of White Ray-skin/black lozenge silk cord wrap, Pure gold a pair of dragon Menuki, Shakudo dragon/waves Fuchi/Kashira (gold iroe), Shakudo dragon/waves Tsuba (gold iroe) and Kozuka is Shakudo/Nanako-ji surface dragon.
