This is the superb Naginata by the first generation TADAYOSHI in Hizen province. His real name is Hashimoto Shinzaemon who exclusively worked for Nabeshima Katsushige who was the lord of Saga castle. He went up to Yamashiro (Kyoto) in the first year of Keicho (1596) to learn from the great master Umetada Myouju then back to Saga in the third year of Keicho (1598). He went up again to Yamashiro, Kyoto in the 10th year of Gena(1624) to entitle Musashi-daijo then changed his smith name to Musashi-daijo TADAHIRO. Passed away the 15th day, in the 8th month, the 9th year of Kanei (1632), 61 years old.
The subject Naginata would be made by special demand from his master Nabeshima, while his technique had matured greatly when he was about 41-2 years old. The entire blade remains well-proportioned, full of heroical spirits with thick and durable construction in an excellent condition (using a scale of mint-excellent-very good-good-fair-poor). The hamon has close resemble to the work of the former master SHIZU Sabro KANEUJI.
