Sugata(configuration) : Naginata-Naoshi (modification from Naginata), Iori-mune. Mihaba is wide and there is less difference in width between base and upper tip. There is a slight sakizori curve. The blade is less in hiraniku and shallow in fukura. (click HERE for higher resolution)
Kitae(forging pattern) : Kitae-hada is conspicuous itame-hada (wooden grain) and the swelling masame hada pattern is found in shonogi-ji. Hiraji is covered in deep Ji-nie that generates chikei (thick nie lines) and also there is speckled hard metal granules (UTSURI). The entire jigane is moistened by ji-nie metal granules.
Hamon(tempering pattern) : Hamon starts with shallow wavy NOTARE mixing in with small gunome, clove outline, then a combination of large gunome and choji clove which varies in height, some of temper overflows beyond shinogi-ridge. There is spot temper marks (Shima), tobiyaki and Yubashiri. The entire hamon is full of variety. Grand sight. The interior of temper is active with sunagashi brushing and kinsen thick nie lines frequently. Bright and vivid nie attaches along the tempering line. The upper the blade, brighter and stronger nie, that generates Yubashiri and Tobiyaki.
Boshi (tip): The temper of the tip is Midarekomi irregular lines with hakikake end.
Nakago(tang) : O-SURIAGE which was modified from Naginata. Unsigned. Filemark is slanted leftward (kattesagari), three mekugi-ana(retaining holes).
Wide in Mihaba and the entire shape is stout, although the blade was modified from Naginata, the entire blade still shows a heroic spirit of warrior, holding a firm base and leads to a broad tip. This wakizashi shows a typical Soshu-den workmanship during Nanbokucho period and recent judgement by NBTHK is Sekishu Sadatsuna (Tokubetsu Hozon papered). The entire shape is wide in mihaba and less hiraniku. The kitae hada is outstanding Itame and hamon is strong Nie based, Kinsen Sunagashi activity is filled in the temper and the nie granules overflows to hiraji that generated Nie UTSURI and YUBASHIRI granules which is vivid and bright. Sadatsuna is a son of Naotsuna who is one of The Ten Genius MASAMUNE's Pupils and a master of Soshu-den school. The entire blade is filled in with an good old Soshu techinique and it's workmanship is hidden an awe-inspiring power.
