The subject heroic wakizashi was made by Furukawa Magoshiro KANESADA, so called The first generation of Aizu KANESADA. The frontier of Aizu katasada school was Furukawa Seiemon Kanesada (a grandson of Izuminokami Kanesada [NOSADA]) who had been moved from Mino to Mutsu province during Koji period (middle of 16 th C).The first smith Aizu KANESADA in Keicho period was served for Aizu Gamou family as 11th generation of Shizu Saburo KANEUJI and changed his smith name TSUNAFUSA in his later period. Passed away in the 20th, the 8th month, 14th year of kanei (A.D.1637). It is understood that this wakizashi was made in his early period from it's signature. Aizu Kanesada smiths had been exclusively worked for Aizu clan and prospered till 11th generations by end of Meiji period. It is well-known that a heroic co-leader Hijikata Toshizo of Shinsengumi, his beloved katana was 11th gen. of Aizu Kanesada
This heroic large wakizashi was produced in the very early stage of Shinto period (Momoyama era), the very early 17th century during Keicho period just after the Warring States period when many of brave Samurai warriors still required such magnificent wakizashi.
